The Mzimba North District Health Office has commended Action for Sustainable Development-ASUD, a Mzuzu local non-governmental organization for playing a complementary role in the promotion of quality health delivery services in the city. Acting District Medical Officer for Mzimba North, Shadreck Ngwira was speaking at Nkhorongo Health Centre in Mzuzu when the organization was handing over PPEs to Choma and Nkhorongo health facilities.

Acting Medical Officer for Mzimba North, Shadreck Ngwira said with the increase in the spread of the COVID-19, the need for other stakeholders to join hands with government in the fight against the pandemic cannot be overemphasized. “As Malawi’s COVID-19 pandemic caseload increases, Mzuzu city is also registering many cases in townships such as Katoto, Mchengautuba, Chimaliro and Lubinga, calling for concerted efforts to arrest its spread.”Said Ngwira.

Responding to the need, Action for Sustainable Development –ASUD, a local non-governmental organization based in the city, is distributing personal protective equipment to Choma and Nkhorongo Health facilities. ASUD Executive Director Thomas Ngwira says the development is in line with government’s efforts in the provision of quality health delivery services in the country. “Yes with the help from our partners we will try to donate more of these materials as one way of assisting government in its efforts aimed at arresting the spread of the pandemic.”Said ASUD Director Thomas Ngwira. Among the materials ASUD donated included soap, hand sanitizers, buckets and bucket stands courtesy of World Connect, an American based organization.
