The District Education Manager – DEM for Mzuzu City Amon Chavula says a conducive learning environment is key to achieving quality education in any country including Malawi.
Chavula was speaking at Mtende primary school in Mzuzu city when Action for Sustainable Development – ASUD donated thirty desks worth over 900 thousand kwacha to the school.
He then thanked ASUD management for the donation which he said was timely. “Let me thank ASUD for the timely donation of 30 desks to Mtende primary school. These desks will assist in motivating learners especially girls to remain in school,” said
“This is not the first time for ASUD to assist the school, they (ASUD) also helped us in the construction of permanent pit latrines with sanitary wares and a banana orchard,” added DEM Chavula.
The District Manager then urged the school management to take care of the desks so that other pupils in future can use them
On his part, ASUD Executive Director Thomas Ngwira said his organization sourced the donation to improve the learning environment of pupils at the school.
“What prompted us to come in were the poor results of the school. You know no learner has managed to get selected to form 1 from this school since its inception,” explained Ngwira.
He said his organization purchased
the furniture with funding from the Friends of Malawi Association- FOMA.
He then thanked the community for participating in the transportation of desks from city centre to the school.
Ngwira urged the teaching staff at the school to work hard and start sending learners to secondary school as a way of appreciating and acknowledging the assistance the school gets from different donors including Friends of Malawi Association.
